About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for research technologies, including server infrastructure, high-performance computing (HPC), AI, and cloud computing services.
- Administer and maintain enterprise storage and server infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance.
- Govern data lifecycle management to ensure secure access and storage in compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations, including HIPAA.
- Supervise systems administration staff, providing guidance on day-to-day operations, talent development, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans, including periodic testing of contingency plans.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with Rutgers OIT and OARC teams to design scalable infrastructure solutions.
- Develop comprehensive procedural documentation, SOPs, and policies for research technology operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Six years of progressively responsible technical experience in a complex production environment.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft server environments.
- Proficiency in enterprise file system management, including NTFS permissions and quota implementations.
- Strong understanding of network/information systems theory, security architecture, and connectivity.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems of high technical complexity and drive tasks across multiple teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a related field.
- Knowledge of authentication methods such as Active Directory/LDAP, DNS, and group policy.
- Experience with server virtualization technologies, specifically VMWare.
- Experience with enterprise shared storage and snapshot technologies.
- Knowledge of capacity planning, availability planning, and performance tuning.
