Manager, Grounds Maintenance

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and direct the maintenance of campus grounds, including turf care, landscaping, horticulture, and irrigation systems.
• Manage grounds staff by setting schedules, assigning duties, conducting performance evaluations, and providing technical training.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of commercial grounds equipment and manage an accurate inventory of parts and supplies.
• Coordinate snow and ice removal operations across all college campuses.
• Develop and monitor annual operating and capital budgets for the grounds department.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental standards and implement proper safety procedures.
• Coordinate with college departments and community organizations to support campus events and programs.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Landscape Technology, Horticulture, Facilities Management, or a related field.
• 5 years of related work experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of turf and landscape installation/maintenance and irrigation systems.
• Ability to operate commercial grounds equipment.
• Forklift Certification (or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire).
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical evaluation and maintain a valid driver's license for business travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working within a higher education setting.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and management.
• Experience handling personnel issues and workplace disagreements constructively.
