About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of campus grounds services, including landscaping, turf management, irrigation, tree care, and campus beautification.
- Direct the operation and preventive maintenance of the university's vehicle and equipment fleet.
- Oversee seasonal operations such as snow and ice removal and exterior waste management.
- Provide strategic oversight through effective planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental, safety, and OSHA standards.
- Lead and supervise staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Respond to emergency and weather-related situations to ensure campus continuity.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in facilities management, horticulture, landscape management, business, or a related field (equivalent experience may be substituted).
- 4 years of progressively responsible management experience in grounds maintenance, fleet management, or related operational services.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
- Valid State of Ohio Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 1 year).
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain eligibility under university driving policies.
- Ability to work as an essential employee, including evenings, weekends, and holidays during emergencies or inclement weather.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher education, municipal, healthcare, or large institutional environment.
- Certified Grounds Manager (CGM) or other relevant horticulture/landscaping certifications.
- Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) or other relevant fleet management certifications.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Automotive Technician.
