Manager, Academic Group Research Development

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the research development support model and oversee the Senior Research Development Officer (SRDO) function.
• Lead and coordinate research development activities across Academic Groups and Institutes to drive collaboration and process improvement.
• Offer expert advice to support funding strategies, grant proposals, and major research initiatives.
• Foster interdisciplinary and external partnerships with industry, government, and international stakeholders.
• Act as a key liaison for Academic Groups and Institutes to ensure alignment with institutional research priorities.
• Manage and develop the SRDO team, fostering capability and high performance.

Requirements

• Postgraduate qualifications (a PhD is highly regarded).
• Extensive experience in research development, higher education, industry, or government.
• Proven leadership and people management skills, specifically with multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to provide high-level strategic advice to senior leaders and researchers.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Exceptional project management and analytical skills to manage complex initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Australian research funding landscape and major competitive funding schemes.
• Experience working within a research-intensive university or higher education environment.
