Maintenance/Custodian

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus buildings and grounds to ensure a neat, clean, and sanitary environment for the college community
• Perform various cleaning tasks including restroom sanitation, carpet vacuuming, floor maintenance, trash removal, and window cleaning
• Execute mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs as needed
• Maintain campus grounds through snow removal, mowing, planting, fertilizing, and aeration
• Order and maintain appropriate custodial supplies from the Physical Plant warehouse
• Secure buildings before leaving for the day
• Provide work direction to custodians, temporary workers, and work-study students as assigned

Requirements

• One year of custodial experience, including the operation of extractors, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and related equipment
• Experience or supplemental training in minor building maintenance
• Ability to lift and move equipment, furniture, or supplies weighing up to 75 lbs
• Ability to climb ladders and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and pushing
• Valid Iowa driver’s license (or ability to obtain one with a satisfactory driving record)
• Ability to read and understand operating instructions and interact effectively with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
