About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and journeyman-level repairs across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, painting, and carpentry trades
- Respond to work order requests in a professional and timely manner, documenting all activities and resolutions
- Identify root causes of facility issues and determine necessary materials, tools, and corrective actions
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures, electrical components, and small motors or pumps
- Execute interior and exterior painting tasks, including surface preparation
- Perform basic maintenance on university vehicles, golf carts, and yard equipment
- Assist grounds technicians with tasks such as mowing, seeding, trimming, and seasonal debris removal
- Collaborate with the Associate Vice President and external vendors on complex maintenance projects
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of relevant experience in building trades
- Working knowledge of maintenance methods and materials for commercial or residential buildings
- Ability to operate yard equipment, manlifts, and vehicles
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various heights or tight spaces
- Valid NC driver’s license (or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire)
- Availability for emergency call-backs during evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in skilled trades
- Experience reading blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Proficiency with automated work order systems
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
