About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
  • Conduct detailed inspections using advanced diagnostic skills and tools.
  • Manage emergency repairs to ensure building systems operate efficiently and comply with safety standards.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other trades, outside vendors, and university employees.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and parts inventory.
  • Utilize digital and mobile work order systems to track tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or state-recognized equivalent.
  • Experience in general maintenance, carpentry, residential home repair, or construction.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (with assistance or tools for heavier loads).
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, and aerial lifts.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain driver eligibility.
  • Ability to work weekends, second shifts, and on-call hours as required.
  • For Level 2 consideration: Three years of experience in general maintenance or related fields (HVAC, electrical, plumbing).

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA or other workplace safety certifications.
  • Experience in an institutional, industrial, or large-scale commercial facility.
  • Technical certification in MEP building system maintenance.
  • Welding experience.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems (EMS).
