Maintenance Mechanic I

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment including motors, fans, pumps, thermostats, and electrical systems to determine maintenance needs
• Perform repairs and maintenance on cleaning equipment, plumbing, heating, and electrical components
• Replace or adjust hardware such as door knobs, hinges, locks, and window components
• Maintain facility cleanliness by cleaning roof drains, window wells, and clearing snow from paths and parking lots
• Perform minor carpentry, furniture repair, and drywall patching
• Prepare inspection reports and work orders for necessary repairs
• Operate single-unit motor vehicles including vans and trucks to support operations
• Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure work areas are clean and secure

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must pass the MECH Exam
• Ability to routinely move and position heavy objects
• Ability to meet requirements to operate a University of Michigan vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a maintenance field
• Experience with minor electrical, plumbing, or carpentry repairs
• Experience with HVAC systems
• Proficiency with hand tools and computer application software
• Strong record-keeping and customer service skills
