About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance on university equipment including refrigeration units, heating systems, air handling machinery, and air conditioners.
- Examine, dismantle, repair, and reassemble various types of mechanical and electrical equipment such as pumps, plumbing, steamfitting, and boilers.
- Inspect, repair, or replace defective parts and perform necessary adjustments, lubrication, and cleaning of functional components.
- Detect faulty equipment operation and report questionable conditions to the supervisor.
- Conduct inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies, and maintain clean shop and work areas.
- Assist with general painting, carpentry, locksmithing, masonry, and electrical duties as required.
- Provide guidance to craft trainees and, in the absence of a lead person, assist with workforce estimation and work coordination.
Requirements
- High school or vocational school education (or equivalent).
- 3 years of experience performing mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair work.
- Proven experience working with industrial-type motors and pumps (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).
- Valid driver's license with at least 2 years of driving experience.
- Ability to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
