- Superior knowledge of college football rules
- Willingness to study and apply NFL rules and mechanics
- Superior fitness, mobility, and professional appearance
- Ability to pass a panel interview and online assessments for competency, emotional intelligence, and leadership
- Ability to provide a physician's statement attesting to physical ability to officiate
- Ability to run and maintain game speed
