About the role
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, grinders, mills, and hones, to precision requirements.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, indices, and tapers.
- Perform layout work, dismantling, fitting, and assembly for maintenance or production equipment.
- Select and grind tools while adjusting speeds and feed rates for efficient machining.
- Maintain and repair assigned machines and equipment to support production goals.
- Comply with all job safety practices, food safety guidelines, and environmental regulations.
- Communicate pertinent information to the next shift and maintain accurate logbooks.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Education Equivalency.
- 2-3 years of minimum job-related experience in a machine shop or tool and die environment.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong mathematical skills, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Working knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment, welding, and brazing.
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts (days and nights) in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment involving noise, chemicals, and confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to create and modify technical drawings using CAD platforms.
- Deep understanding of material properties such as strength, hardness, and machinability.
- Knowledge of various metals (aluminum, steel, stainless, alloys) and their behavior during machining.
- Experience selecting appropriate materials, tooling, and speeds/feeds based on material characteristics.
