About the role
Responsibilities
- Supervise students in the machine shop to ensure proper machining methods and safety protocols are followed
- Operate and perform routine maintenance on fabrication and laboratory equipment, including CNC mills, CNC lathes, laser cutters, and 3D printers
- Assist senior staff with machining operations to support the department's course curriculum
- Support laboratory experiments by setting up equipment and performing basic troubleshooting
- Maintain shop inventory, organize supplies, and assist with material billing coordination
- Develop proficiency in advanced machining, CAM consultations, and student project design
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of experience in a research environment
- Hands-on experience working in a laboratory or workshop environment
- Demonstrated experience operating milling machines and lathes in an academic or research setting
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as Fusion or SolidWorks
- Experience teaching or mentoring in STEAM fields
- Strong desire to master advanced machining and fabrication techniques
