About the role

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in the machine shop to ensure proper machining methods and safety protocols are followed
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on fabrication and laboratory equipment, including CNC mills, CNC lathes, laser cutters, and 3D printers
  • Assist senior staff with machining operations to support the department's course curriculum
  • Support laboratory experiments by setting up equipment and performing basic troubleshooting
  • Maintain shop inventory, organize supplies, and assist with material billing coordination
  • Develop proficiency in advanced machining, CAM consultations, and student project design

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a research environment
  • Hands-on experience working in a laboratory or workshop environment
  • Demonstrated experience operating milling machines and lathes in an academic or research setting
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as Fusion or SolidWorks
  • Experience teaching or mentoring in STEAM fields
  • Strong desire to master advanced machining and fabrication techniques
