Machinist

Responsibilities

• Layout, construct, alter, and repair a variety of tools, dies, fixtures, gauges, machines, and equipment.
• Work from blueprints, tables, specifications, and handbook formulas to layout and inspect machined, welded, or formed parts.
• Perform difficult and exacting machining operations requiring a wide range of set-ups to maintain close tolerances.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as verniers, micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines to check parts.
• Conduct skilled bench work including filing, scraping, lapping, grinding, fitting, and assembly.
• Follow all prescribed safety standards, PPE requirements, and EH&S policies.
• Maintain 5S standards by ensuring tools and equipment are organized and in their dedicated locations.
• Monitor and report any abnormalities in machine operation, product quality, or standard processes to leadership.

Requirements

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in programming CNC fabrication machines using G code.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints to convert Cartesian coordinates into CNC programs.
• Ability to perform light physical effort, including occasionally lifting or moving average weight material.
• Ability to work with minimal direction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman Machinist or Journeyman Toolmaker certification.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience specifically as a tool and die maker.
• Experience using CAD packages to create blueprints for tools, dies, and fixtures.
• Experience in MIG welding.
