Machine Shop Manager

Responsibilities

• Oversee machine shop operations, including supervision of chargehands and CNC programmers
• Manage the machine shop budget, expenditure, and capital expenditure justifications
• Review capacity requirements and coordinate with the Planning Department to meet production goals
• Optimize processes and procedures to reduce machine times, costs, and increase flow rates
• Ensure full compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards and support internal/external audits
• Maintain strict adherence to HSE and COSHH regulations, including risk assessments and waste segregation
• Lead, coach, and develop the machine shop team through annual performance appraisals and training
• Monitor subcontractor progress, quality, and pricing for machining services

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
• 8–12 years of hands-on experience in precision machining, fabrication, or manufacturing
• At least 5 years of experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity
• Strong technical knowledge of CNC and manual machining, tooling, and programming
• Comprehensive understanding of QA/QC processes and ISO 9001 quality standards
• In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations, risk assessments, and COSHH compliance

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional qualifications in Production Management, Business Administration, or Lean Manufacturing
• Recognized certifications in HSE management or Leadership & Supervisory Skills
• Experience with continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, or Kaizen methodologies
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and work order management
