Machine Learning Engineer - Mapping

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and deploy machine learning models to automate the creation of Waymo's HD maps
• Apply and advance state-of-the-art ML techniques, including Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and Generative AI
• Own the complete model development lifecycle from data mining to productionization
• Collaborate with partner ML teams to adapt cutting-edge research into scalable solutions

Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in Machine Learning
• Strong focus on computer vision and/or deep learning
• Proficiency in TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX
• Experience owning problems end-to-end across the systems stack
• B.S. in Computer Science or a similar technical field

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline
• Familiarity with foundation models and model adaptation techniques
• Track record of publications in top-tier ML/CV conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, etc.)
• Experience with C++
• Direct experience with mapping or GIS
