About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering research to develop prototype operational capabilities in applied AI for autonomy and uncrewed systems
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to turn research results into mission-scale AI capabilities for government customers
- Conduct novel prototyping in machine learning with a focus on multi-domain autonomy
- Collaborate with software developers, researchers, and designers to influence the national research and engineering agenda
- Mentor and teach others to improve the overall technical capabilities of the SEI AI Division
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science or related field with 8 years of experience, MS with 5 years, or PhD with 2 years
- Ability to work onsite in Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA 5 days per week
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance
- Extensive experience in applied machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Strong knowledge of robotics and autonomy principles (sensor fusion, navigation, collision avoidance)
- Experience with Docker and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Experience with model experimentation software such as MLFlow or Weights & Biases
Preferred Qualifications
- Track record of research publications or contributions to open-source code
- Experience leading technical projects and mentoring researchers
- Experience formulating and delivering successful research proposals to funding agencies
- Familiarity with government research sponsors such as DARPA, IARPA, or various military branches
