Machine Design Engineer II

Responsibilities

• Perform project assignments involving complex machine design features under the guidance of senior engineers
• Analyze and evaluate results using prescribed technical techniques
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and detailed calculations
• Coordinate with designers and drafters to produce complete design packages
• Support interface development with structural, mechanical process, controls, and aerodynamics disciplines
• Participate in the production of detailed drawings, specifications, and technical documentation

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E.) from an accredited engineering school
• Minimum of three years of relevant machine design experience
• Strong analytical skills in kinematics, dynamics, and stress/strain
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for static stress-strain and natural frequency
• Knowledge of common machine design elements such as gears, bearings, belts, and linkages

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) including tolerance, fits, and stack-up analysis
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software, specifically Inventor or Solidworks
• Experience with FEA tools like Ansys for thermal, non-linear, or multi-physics analysis
• Knowledge of design for small-scale fabrication (milling, turning, welding, etc.)
• Experience with fluid power systems, including pneumatic/hydraulic cylinders and P&IDs
• Background in design for fiber-composites manufacturing
