About the role

Responsibilities

  • Deliver consultant-led care for gastroenterology inpatients
  • Provide outpatient gastroenterology clinics
  • Undertake diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy
  • Participate in the consultant gastroenterology ward rota
  • Support the delivery of inpatient gastroenterology referrals
  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota for General Medicine
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement projects
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology & Hepatology (or equivalent)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
  • GMC Specialist Registration in Gastroenterology or approaching CCT
  • Broad experience in General Medicine
  • Evidence of independent clinical practice
  • Experience making complex clinical decisions and managing clinical risk
  • Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education
  • Commitment to clinical governance and audit

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher medical or scientific degree relevant to Gastroenterology or Hepatology
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Formal teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching endoscopy
  • Evidence of academic or research achievements
