About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to litigation attorneys, including research, document retrieval, and service of process
  • Perform electronic court filings for state and federal district and appellate courts
  • Screen and review incoming and outgoing court documents to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures
  • Review court filings and enter calendar deadlines into centralized docketing software (e.g., CourtAlert)
  • Track critical dates and communicate information to attorneys, paralegals, and staff
  • Travel to courts and administrative agencies to process filings and retrieve decisions as necessary
  • Search cases using specialized software and internet resources
  • Assist with administrative projects and provide general back-up support

Requirements

  • Understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures
  • Familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings
  • Experience with federal, state, and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (e.g., PACER, NYSCEF, NexGen)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures in Washington D.C. state and federal courts

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of prior experience in litigation docketing
  • Experience working in a large law firm
  • Proficiency with rules-based calendaring software such as CourtAlert, CompuLaw, or MA3000
