About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide support to litigation attorneys, including research, document retrieval, and service of process
- Perform electronic court filings for state and federal district and appellate courts
- Screen and review incoming and outgoing court documents to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures
- Review court filings and enter calendar deadlines into centralized docketing software (e.g., CourtAlert)
- Track critical dates and communicate information to attorneys, paralegals, and staff
- Travel to courts and administrative agencies to process filings and retrieve decisions as necessary
- Search cases using specialized software and internet resources
- Assist with administrative projects and provide general back-up support
Requirements
- Understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures
- Familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings
- Experience with federal, state, and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (e.g., PACER, NYSCEF, NexGen)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Knowledge of court rules and procedures in Washington D.C. state and federal courts
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-3 years of prior experience in litigation docketing
- Experience working in a large law firm
- Proficiency with rules-based calendaring software such as CourtAlert, CompuLaw, or MA3000
