About the role
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, negotiate, and resolve personal injury, civil rights/police, labor and employment, and other tort claims against the City of New York
- Approve, deny, or otherwise appropriately act on Law Department requests for settlement authority
- Prepare memoranda on pre-litigation claims and pending litigation to evaluate liability, risk, and damages
- Participate in settlement negotiations in state and federal courts and alternative dispute resolution forums
- Attend 50-h hearings on high-profile and media-sensitive matters
- Assist Senior Attorneys and Directors on intergovernmental risk management initiatives
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar, or six months of service as an Agency Attorney Interne
- Must remain a Member of the New York State Bar in good standing
