Responsibilities

• Understand underwriting policies, guidelines, practices and procedures
• Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of medical history, physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background
• Communicate underwriting decisions effectively in writing and verbally
• Influence and champion changes to improve processes while maintaining mortality expectations
• Work efficiently to gather information necessary for decision making
• Work independently with minimal direction and handle ambiguity

Requirements

• 3+ years of life insurance underwriting experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of risk selection (medical, non-medical, financial)
• Experience with term and permanent life insurance underwriting
• Strong critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• 4 year degree
• Industry designations such as LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, or FALU
