Licensed Practical Nurse

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy for assigned patients in an acute inpatient setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
• Perform technical aspects of dialysis procedures, including setting up and priming equipment for renal replacement therapies
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and monitor arterial and venous pressures
• Document patient treatment, vital signs, and treatment parameters accurately in the hospital Electronic Medical System (EMS) and Acute Care Electronic System (ACES)
• Identify intradialytic problems and provide interventions as prescribed by physician orders or directed by the RN
• Collect and label specimens for laboratory delivery according to facility policy
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary treatment environment, including addressing blood spills according to protocol
• Initiate basic CPR measures and respond to emergency situations related to dialysis treatment

Requirements

• Current state nursing licensure (LPN/LVN)
• Minimum of one year of medical-surgical nursing experience
• Successful completion of a hemodialysis training course in theory and practice
• Current CPR Certification
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of hemodialysis experience
