About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform minor and complex paper conservation treatments for bound and single sheet printed objects, photographs, and manuscripts
- Examine and evaluate collection materials for treatment and confer with curatorial staff
- Manage workflow, maintain records, write reports, and provide photo documentation
- Prepare objects for loans, exhibits, digitization, and public programs
- Assist in the training and supervision of summer conservation interns
- Assist with preservation activities including disaster preparedness, collection storage, and environmental monitoring
- Provide collection housing in prefabricated and custom enclosures
- Provide lab tours and participate in events programming and social media
Requirements
- Degree in library & archives or paper conservation from an accredited program
- 3-5 years of experience performing paper or archives conservation treatments
- Solid knowledge of conservation treatment, documentation, and preservation principles
- Strong attention to detail and excellent hand skills
- Ability to operate and maintain specialized tools and book conservation equipment
- Ability to work with relevant chemicals and comply with health and safety protocols
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
