About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative assistance to Government Policy Advisors and Attorneys, including calendar coordination and meeting scheduling.
- Draft and edit correspondence, legislative summaries, and reports regarding Campaign Finance and Lobbying Act Compliance.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legislative histories on statutes enacted by the Michigan Legislature.
- Review introduced legislation to assess impact on clients and prepare weekly legislative dockets.
- Attend legislative committee and state departmental hearings to assess testimony and prepare activity reports.
- Assist with document production, running conflict checks, preparing screening forms, and setting up engagement letters.
- Support the coordination of legislative receptions and other firm events.
- Perform general administrative duties such as filing, notetaking, and assisting the Compliance Team with data entry.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, or a related field.
- At least one year of professional experience in legislative policy, regulatory affairs, or government relations.
- High-level proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects under deadline pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of general office or administrative experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word.
