About the Company
The Nassau County District Attorney's Office investigates and prosecutes violations of state and local criminal statutes occurring within Nassau County. With nearly 200 attorneys and a total staff in excess of 400, it is one of the largest district attorney's offices in the country.
Responsibilities
- Type and prepare legal documents including opinions, briefs, pleadings, memoranda, and contracts
- Proofread documents to verify accuracy of citations and references
- Maintain attorney and court calendars
- Type reports, letters, schedules, and forms
- Operate personal computers and related office equipment
- Maintain manual and automatic filing systems
- Utilize Microsoft Word and other standard office applications
- Take minutes during witness examinations at hearings or court proceedings
Requirements
- High school diploma (or equivalent experience)
- Two years of satisfactory clerical or secretarial experience in a law office
- Must be a Nassau County resident for at least 12 months
- Must be able to pass a Civil Service examination
- Knowledge of civil or criminal legal terminology, forms, and documents
- Proficiency in spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- Ability to type legal documents accurately and at a reasonable rate
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Legal Secretarial Science
