About the Company

The Nassau County District Attorney's Office investigates and prosecutes violations of state and local criminal statutes occurring within Nassau County. With nearly 200 attorneys and a total staff in excess of 400, it is one of the largest district attorney's offices in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Type and prepare legal documents including opinions, briefs, pleadings, memoranda, and contracts
  • Proofread documents to verify accuracy of citations and references
  • Maintain attorney and court calendars
  • Type reports, letters, schedules, and forms
  • Maintain manual and automatic filing systems
  • Utilize Microsoft Word and other office equipment
  • Take minutes during witness examinations or court proceedings
  • Perform duties in Spanish as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent experience)
  • Two years of clerical or secretarial experience in a law office
  • Fluency in Spanish and English
  • Must be a Nassau County resident for at least 12 months
  • Ability to pass a Civil Service examination

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Legal Secretarial Science
  • Knowledge of criminal or civil legal terminology
