About the role

Responsibilities

  • Transcribe legal documents including testimony minutes, trial information, court orders, opinions, briefs, subpoenas, and petitions.
  • Organize and maintain comprehensive case files, including confidential materials such as medical records and photographic evidence.
  • Enter and update case information in tracking systems and manage the filing and retrieval of legal documents.
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, hearings, and meetings.
  • Screen incoming calls, route inquiries, and manage incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with high levels of accuracy and discretion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • One year of related legal secretarial experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal terminology and the format of legal documents (briefs, petitions, complaints, etc.).
  • Proficiency in business English, including grammar, spelling, and professional correspondence.
  • Strong typing, data entry, and legal proofreading skills.
  • Ability to transcribe mechanical dictation accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and empathy when interacting with crime victims, witnesses, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a County Attorney's Office or similar government legal department.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
