About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support active and new Supreme Court litigation
- Assist in drafting legal memoranda, motions, and briefs
- Contribute to argument development and long-term litigation strategy
- Support advocacy strategy development and coalition management for cases before the U.S. Supreme Court
- Provide assistance to ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys
Requirements
- Currently matriculated law student based in the U.S. for the entire internship
- Completion of 1L year by summer 2026; preference for candidates who have completed 2L
- Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice
- Ability to conduct complex legal analysis and manage projects to completion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience drafting briefs before the United States Supreme Court
- Familiarity with Section 1983 litigation, immigration law, LGBTQ rights, free speech, administrative law, national security law, or structural constitutional law
