About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal and policy research
- Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs
- Research prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims
- Develop materials for public education and human rights documentation
- Prepare advocacy materials for regional and international bodies
- Support domestic and international human rights advocacy
Requirements
- Currently matriculated U.S. law student based in the U.S. for the entire internship
- Completed at least one semester of law school before the internship starts
- Strong interest in protecting and expanding civil and human rights
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based research
- Initiative to see projects through to completion
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with the human rights framework and international human rights system
- Knowledge and experience with immigration and criminal legal system issues, especially sentencing and juvenile justice
