About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal and policy research
  • Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs
  • Research prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims
  • Develop materials for public education and human rights documentation
  • Prepare advocacy materials for regional and international bodies
  • Support domestic and international human rights advocacy

Requirements

  • Currently matriculated U.S. law student based in the U.S. for the entire internship
  • Completed at least one semester of law school before the internship starts
  • Strong interest in protecting and expanding civil and human rights
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based research
  • Initiative to see projects through to completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with the human rights framework and international human rights system
  • Knowledge and experience with immigration and criminal legal system issues, especially sentencing and juvenile justice
