About the Company
For over 100 years, the ACLU has worked to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States. The Capital Punishment Project challenges the unfairness and arbitrariness of capital punishment while working toward the ultimate goal of abolishing the death penalty.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal and policy research
- Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs
- Research prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims
- Research and draft materials for public education
Requirements
- Currently matriculated legal student
- Must have completed 1 year of law school before the internship commences
- Based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship
- Strong interest in the abolition of the death penalty and commitment to civil rights
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and in a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills
- Initiative to see projects through to completion
