Legal Counsel

Responsibilities

• Act as a strategic business partner and trusted adviser to the organization on all relevant legal issues.
• Develop and implement legal strategies to protect company assets, reputation, and people while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
• Manage the drafting, vetting, and negotiation of commercial agreements and complex transactions.
• Serve as the local Compliance Officer for the Sub-Saharan African Business Unit, ensuring high standards of global legal principles.
• Provide legal guidance on supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, IP, property, consumer protection, and HR matters.
• Manage and advise on both contentious and non-contentious legal and regulatory issues.
• Liaise with and manage external counsel in litigation, acting as a translator between legal experts and the business.
• Conduct legal training and keep the business updated on changes in applicable laws.
• Research and evaluate risk factors to provide proactive advice on business decisions and operations.

Requirements

• Law Degree and a valid license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction(s).
• 10 years of post-admission corporate commercial experience.
• 3-5 years of experience serving as in-house legal counsel.
• Proven knowledge of Intellectual Property (IP) laws and principles.
• Experience working within a large, matrixed multinational company.
• Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high professional integrity.
