About the role
Responsibilities
- Performs secretarial duties for assigned attorneys according to established policies
- Prepares correspondence, memoranda, and legal documents from drafts
- Screens telephone calls, records messages, and manages incoming/outgoing mail
- Establishes and maintains calendars and deadline reminder systems
- Opens new files, conducts conflict of interest checks, and maintains client files
- Receives clients and visitors while observing attorney-client confidentiality
- Processes bills, proofs billing sheets, and reviews/edits bills
- Performs typing, filing, photocopying, and reception relief as needed
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience in a law office environment
- Ability to proofread and perform minor editing of legal correspondence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard office technology
- Ability to transcribe legal documents from rough drafts or dictation
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills under time constraints
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with clients and staff
- Ability to perform non-complex arithmetic calculations
- Willingness to work occasional irregular hours or more than 40 hours per week
