About the role
Responsibilities
- Teach an in-person section of Introduction to Linguistics (ENG 121) covering topics such as language universals, language and society, and language acquisition.
- Design and maintain syllabi aligned with departmental expectations and established course blueprints.
- Facilitate instruction via Brightspace LMS or other instructional software.
- Provide student support through regular correspondence, office hours, and timely grading and feedback.
- Attend course coordination meetings and complete required orientations and trainings.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in English, Linguistics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated academic background adequate for teaching introductory linguistics courses.
- Access to a reliable computer with a webcam, microphone, and high-speed internet for instructional delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years of teaching experience (in-person, online, and/or hybrid) at the college level.
Benefits
- Compensation is provided on a per-credit-hour basis in accordance with the Maine Part-Time Faculty Association (PATFA) contract.
- Eligible part-time faculty members may elect certain benefits provided by the University of Maine System.
