About the role

Responsibilities

  • Teach six courses per academic year (three in the Fall and three in the Winter term)
  • Develop course curricula in consultation with the DAAS Director of Undergraduate Studies
  • Oversee course graders when applicable
  • Hold regular office hours for student support
  • Manage course planning, grading, and the appropriate use of classroom technology

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field or ABD (All But Dissertation) status by the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated experience teaching courses with variable styles of delivery
  • Cutting-edge and contemporary knowledge in the field of African American Studies or related disciplines
  • Ability to teach large-enrollment undergraduate courses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Ability to teach interdisciplinary courses at the intersections of Afro-Diasporic Studies, slavery studies, popular culture, new media, film and media studies, legal studies, critical technology studies, or environmental humanities
