About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead 3 laboratory sections per week for QMSS 201 under the guidance of a faculty instructor of record
- Prepare lessons, curate datasets, and assist with the creation of weekly laboratory assignments
- Hold at least 3 hours of weekly office hours to support student learning
- Attend weekly QMSS Community Hours to provide supplemental academic support to students
- Participate in weekly teaching team meetings and program activities
- Grade assignments and projects while providing constructive feedback to students
- Assist with software, tools, and datasets used in the curriculum
Requirements
- PhD in a social science discipline with a demonstrated focus on quantitative methods
- Experience teaching courses that utilize quantitative methods and analysis
- Demonstrated proficiency in teaching and using Microsoft Excel and R
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with additional analytical tools such as Tableau
- Experience teaching undergraduate students
- Expertise in data cleaning, data management (codebooks), descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and data visualization
- Ability to communicate data-driven findings to a wide range of audiences

The Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) program at the University of Michigan aims to train undergraduate students in the theories and methods needed to be successful, data-literate social scientists.
