Learning Specialist - Mathematics

Responsibilities

• Provide academic support and resources to help students succeed in developmental and introductory mathematics courses
• Assist the Department of Mathematical Sciences with tutoring and monitoring the Mathematics lab
• Support teacher education students preparing for the Praxis test and MATH 103
• Develop and teach supplemental instruction sessions for CORE 39 Math classes
• Select, supervise, support, and evaluate math tutors, including conducting semesterly training
• Serve as a liaison between the Academic Success Center and the Department of Mathematical Sciences
• Teach developmental math sections (Foundations for Quantitative Reasoning and Foundations for College Algebra) as needed
• Serve on the Placement Testing Committee and maintain program records and assessments

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mathematics or a related field
• Solid understanding of developmental educational theory, practices, and assessment
• Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet software
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching at the college level
• Three years of related professional experience
• Experience working with student information systems such as Banner
