About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide three to four hours of individualized, in-person academic support per week to students within the Valiant Launch Program.
- Coach students in developing executive functioning skills, including organization, time management, planning, and prioritization.
- Help students identify learning barriers and develop a "toolbox" of customized strategies to enhance college-level academic skills.
- Use current course assignments to create "chunked" tasks that support student ability to manage coursework.
- Foster student self-advocacy and self-awareness to encourage independence and ownership of their learning.
- Collaborate with the Launch Program Coordinator and Center for Student Accessibility Director to ensure appropriate service delivery.
- Maintain detailed, confidential records of student progress and session notes.
- Facilitate weekly drop-in learning support hours for program participants.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- At least two years of experience supporting students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to teach executive functioning and study strategies.
- Knowledge of various disabilities and their specific impacts on the university learning environment.
- Proficiency with learning management systems and assistive technology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while coaching students in self-reflection.
