Lead Wind Turbine Technician

Responsibilities

• Lead field crews performing major component exchanges on Vestas wind turbine platforms
• Direct the removal and installation of gearboxes, generators, blades, hubs, and pitch bearings
• Serve as the on-site lead for daily work execution, crew coordination, and safety oversight
• Oversee crane operations, heavy rigging activities, and complex lifting operations
• Ensure strict compliance with OSHA regulations, LOTO procedures, and OEM requirements
• Troubleshoot advanced mechanical, hydraulic, and drivetrain-related issues
• Coordinate work activities with site leadership, customers, and crane providers
• Train, coach, and mentor Wind Turbine Technicians and MCE team members

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 4 years of wind turbine maintenance experience
• Demonstrated experience leading Major Component Exchange (MCE) crews on Vestas platforms
• Hands-on experience with Vestas gearbox, generator, blade, hub, and pitch bearing exchanges
• Proven leadership experience in a field role (Lead Technician, Foreman, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, LOTO, and rigging practices
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to travel approximately 90% for extended project assignments

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical school, military, or trade-related training
• Current GWO certifications
• CDL-A with air brake endorsement
• Advanced rigging, crane signaling, or lifting certifications
• Valid passport for international project support
