About the role
About the Company
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed to provide critical power to hospitals, data centers, and remote sites.
Responsibilities
- Lead requirements definition, design, and implementation of Radiant’s test site
- Design, build, commission, and maintain test rigs, fixtures, and instrumentation for turbomachinery and cooling systems
- Own the turbomachinery test strategy across development, qualification, and production phases
- Serve as the technical authority for vibration, rotordynamic, and bearing-related testing
- Plan and execute development, qualification, and acceptance tests
- Analyze test data to assess vibration behavior, stability, and thermal response
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to test engineers and technicians
- Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing teams to resolve design discrepancies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in testing or validation of turbomachinery or rotating equipment
- Hands-on experience testing high-speed rotating machinery and high-temperature hardware
- Experience correlating test results with analytical predictions
- Demonstrated technical leadership skills
- Ability to work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading or mentoring test engineers or technicians
- Experience with power generation or high-reliability systems
- Strong understanding of rotordynamics, vibration, and bearing behavior
- Familiarity with rotordynamic analysis tools (e.g., XLrotor, Dyrobes)
- Familiarity with industry standards such as API, ASME, or ISO
- Startup or fast-paced hardware development experience
