Lead Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

• Serve as the L3 technical SME for IBM MQ and messaging technologies, providing deep troubleshooting and design guidance for complex incidents.
• Partner with L2 support teams to improve operational maturity through enhanced runbooks, automation, and knowledge sharing.
• Lead problem management and root-cause analysis (RCA) to ensure permanent remediation of recurring incidents.
• Design and implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and health indicators to detect failure signals early.
• Engineer self-healing automation to mitigate or recover from known failure scenarios and reduce operational toil.
• Build and maintain automation for the full MQ lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, and recovery workflows.
• Support platform modernization initiatives, including containerized messaging and cloud/hybrid architectures.
• Mentor engineers across L2/L3 teams, promoting best practices in reliability engineering and proactive operations.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of related experience in systems or messaging engineering.
• Strong expertise with IBM MQ (including MQ IPT and NativeHA) and IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE).
• Proven L3 troubleshooting expertise, including performance analysis and failure recovery.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools like Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus.
• Exposure to containerized messaging platforms (e.g., OpenShift or Kubernetes).
• Strong Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset with a focus on scalability and resilience.
