Lead Substation Commissioning Technician

Responsibilities

• Lead the commissioning of transmission substation equipment to ensure compliance with project specifications and design feasibility.
• Provide functional direction and supervision to technicians, craft support, and other discipline engineers.
• Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning schedules and proactively plan for major milestones.
• Execute commissioning efforts as an independent resource to ensure efficient and timely turnover to the client.
• Perform thorough system walk-downs and reviews to establish completion status and identify outstanding items.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Protection System design, settings, testing, or NERC CIP ESP/Security Zone commissioning.
• Review and approve commissioning documentation, test results, and relay calibration reports.
• Adhere to all safety and quality standards, particularly in high-voltage environments.

Requirements

• OSHA 10 Hour Training certification.
• Subject matter expertise in Protection System design or NERC CIP.
• Ability to work safely in high-voltage substation environments.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical labor in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.
• Capability to work long shifts, climb ladders/scaffolds, and work in confined or awkward spaces.

Preferred Qualifications

• NICET or NETA Certification.
• 8+ years of relevant startup or commissioning experience.
• Strong knowledge of tools, instruments, and technical principles related to power plants.
• Proven supervisory, planning, and problem-solving skills.
