Lead Reactor Physicist

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of SMR/MMR reactor cores, including fuel assembly configurations and control rod systems
• Perform comprehensive reactor physics calculations including neutronics analysis, burnup modeling, and reactivity control
• Develop, validate, and maintain core simulation models using industry-standard neutronics and thermal-hydraulic codes
• Ensure all core designs comply with NRC regulations, including 10 CFR Part 50, Part 52, and Part 53
• Support the development of Safety Analysis Reports (SAR/FSAR) and other regulatory documentation
• Guide, mentor, and develop a team of junior and mid-level reactor physicists and core design engineers
• Collaborate with licensing, mechanical, and structural engineering teams to integrate physics requirements

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Reactor Physics, or a closely related field
• 10+ years of experience in reactor physics, core design, or nuclear engineering within the U.S. nuclear industry
• Proven experience with reactor core design for SMR, advanced reactor, or Generation IV systems
• Deep knowledge of U.S. nuclear regulatory frameworks (10 CFR Part 50, 52, and 53)
• Proficiency with neutronics codes such as MCNP, SCALE, CASMO, or SIMULATE
• Experience developing computational methods for NRC licensing purposes

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the U.S.
• Experience with NRC pre-application engagement and formal licensing interactions
• Active membership in professional organizations like the American Nuclear Society (ANS)
• Experience with advanced fuel cycle design and digital twin modeling
