About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead a fast-paced R&D team in building high-temperature superconducting magnets and assemblies
  • Manage daily, weekly, and monthly objectives and communicate them clearly to the team
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Perform and lead prototype hardware builds with minimal documentation and oversight
  • Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Maintain accurate records of all projects, assignments, and process monitoring activities
  • Ensure a safe work environment and maintain equipment and general housekeeping
  • Coordinate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality departments to meet goals

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with hand and power tools and general machine shop equipment
  • Proven experience leading a team of technicians performing mechanical and electrical assembly
  • Ability to work the second shift (2:00 pm - 10:00 pm)
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities like standing or stooping for extended periods
  • Strong communication skills to provide direction and training to a highly skilled team
  • Dedication to safety in environments involving heat, cold, high voltage, and cryogenics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with winding equipment, epoxy potting, or injection molding
  • Experience navigating assemblies in 3D CAD software
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma principles
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids handling, high vacuum leak testing, or vacuum systems
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs
  • Experience operating forklifts, cranes, or lifting equipment
