Lead Propulsion Engineer, Structures

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural and stress engineering domains for the Symphony turbofan engine, including static and rotating components
• Take ownership of structural metrics by executing structural and life assessments using analytical methods and FEA
• Develop and integrate toolchains, processes, multi-disciplinary workflows, and automation
• Support Symphony engine development and Overture propulsion system integration, including fabrication and testing

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field
• 15+ years of professional experience
• Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages
• Experience in structural assessments for rotating and non-rotating components in axial turbomachinery
• Experience with fatigue phenomena such as flutter, HCF, LCF, and thermo-mechanical fatigue
• Expertise in ANSYS Mechanical or NASTRAN
• Ability to navigate CAD for module integration efforts

Preferred Qualifications

• Component or module ownership in a turbomachinery program
• Experience with engine rig tests, bearings, or rotordynamics
• Knowledge of engine mounts and dynamic load scenarios
• Supersonic jet engine design experience
• Part 33 commercial certification experience
• Experience with advanced materials like superalloys
• Experience simulating impact dynamics using LS-DYNA
• Experience with MDAO workflows
