About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of estimators, including designating daily assignments
- Plan and participate in the preparation of construction cost estimates for buildings and structures from drawings and specifications
- Prepare and review cost estimates and materials required to secure State and federal grants or loans from school aid programs
- Verify the accuracy of cost estimates submitted by architects and engineers and negotiate agreements on preliminary costs
- Analyze change orders on construction work and approve or reject extras or credits
- Establish budgets for school building projects and develop methods for maintaining cost data records
- Conduct seminars and workshops regarding school construction bidding procedures and cost estimating
- Prepare preliminary and final independent cost estimates to establish negotiating positions for PM/CM
Requirements
- 14 years of professional experience in preparing complete cost estimates for major/complex building construction
- 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity leading estimators
- 5 years of experience working for a construction cost consulting firm
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management
- Extensive knowledge of current local construction labor and material costs
- Proven ability to develop conceptual and preconstruction cost estimates for complex school building projects
- Strong oral and written communication skills
