Lead Production Equipment Tooling Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of production equipment and tooling projects including requirements, CAD, drawings, and vendor oversight
• Drive tooling availability to >95% uptime and reduce manual assembly cycle time
• Design alignment fixtures, press and torque tooling, ergonomic stations, and automated EOL test rigs
• Lead on-line debugging and rapid root-cause analysis during launches
• Create and enforce tooling design standards, GD&T practices, and tolerance stacks
• Mentor and review work of 1–4 tooling engineers and technicians
• Coordinate cross-functionally with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams
• Manage relationships with fabricators and vendors through RFQs and acceptance testing

Requirements

• 5+ years designing production equipment, fixtures, or custom automation in high-volume manufacturing
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• Mastery of GD&T, tolerance analysis, mechanism design, and material selection
• Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably Siemens NX
• Hands-on experience commissioning equipment on the factory floor
• Practical knowledge of pneumatics, actuators, sensors, and linear motion
• Proven track record of delivering quantitative outcomes like cycle time and FPY
• Ability to lead vendor builds and perform acceptance testing
• Ability to work onsite in South San Francisco with occasional travel
