Lead Power Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead EMT modeling activities, defining study scopes and coordinating timelines with utilities and ISOs
• Oversee development and maintenance of detailed EMT models in PSCAD, PSSE, or equivalent platforms
• Perform and review EMT studies including fault response, frequency/voltage ride-through, and stability assessments
• Verify product compliance with grid codes and interconnection standards like IEEE 2800 and NERC
• Partner with controls engineering to translate simulation findings into control system requirements
• Correlate control simulation predictions with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and field test results
• Use transient and dynamic modeling to evaluate the impact of hardware changes on grid performance
• Provide technical advisement to policy engagement leaders to influence external policy development

Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in EMT modeling for inverter-based resources (PSCAD, EMTP, etc.)
• Deep expertise in power electronics, BESS, and grid-forming/grid-following architectures
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for controls development
• Experience with HIL testing environments such as Opal-RT, RTDS, or Typhoon HIL
• Strong technical communication skills for presenting to utilities and ISOs
