Lead Nuclear Engineer

About the Company

Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed to provide critical power to hospitals, data centers, and remote sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage an interdisciplinary team of nuclear engineers focused on safety analyses, core performance, shielding, I&C, and thermal-hydraulics
• Hire, lead, and grow a high-performing team of nuclear engineers
• Own nuclear engineering projects end-to-end, including requirement capture, design iteration, and simulation pipeline development
• Collaborate with the regulatory team on nuclear industry standards and requirements
• Mentor engineers through actionable feedback and coaching

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or equivalent
• 5+ years of nuclear engineering industry experience
• Proficiency with MCNP and/or OpenMC software
• Deep knowledge of neutron transport and Monte Carlo simulation theory
• 1+ year of experience managing direct reports
• Ability to work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in nuclear engineering
• Subject matter expertise in safety analysis, shielding, instrumentation and controls, reactor operations, or radioactive material transportation
