Lead Mechanical Engineer - Static Equipment

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering leadership for the design and delivery of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and storage tanks.
• Lead the development, review, and approval of technical specifications, design calculations, and drawings.
• Oversee the preparation of specifications for all mechanical equipment within the project scope.
• Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and HSE expectations.
• Lead technical bid evaluations and provide recommendations to support vendor selection and procurement.
• Review and approve vendor drawings, calculations, and technical data to ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and quality oversight.
• Coordinate design registration submissions with applicable authorities, such as TSSA in Ontario.
• Participate in risk assessments, design reviews, and constructability evaluations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering.
• Registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
• Proven expertise in the design, fabrication, and testing of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and storage tanks.
• Proficiency with static equipment software such as COMPRESS, PV Elite, or AMETank.
• Strong working knowledge of ASME Section I, ASME Section VIII (Div 1 & 2), and API standards (650, 653, 620).
• Experience in the oil, gas, chemical, or petrochemical sectors.
• Eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with thermal sizing of heat exchangers using HTRI.
• Understanding of finite element stress analysis aligned with ASME code requirements.
• Knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and ASCE 7.
