About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership in materials reliability, failure analysis, and risk mitigation for the Advanced Computing Systems (ACS) organization.
- Lead the Materials Science Lab (MSL) by defining investigation strategies, interpreting complex data, and driving engineering actions.
- Partner with MSL staff to execute materials characterization and analytical testing for product development and field investigations.
- Manage MSL resources, including budgeting for capital, facilities, human resources, and managing SOW for contractors.
- Collaborate with ODMs and suppliers to resolve component reliability concerns and lead technical deep-dives on failure mechanisms.
- Mentor and coach engineers on failure analysis workflows, experimental design, and technical storytelling.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in materials reliability, failure analysis, or product reliability engineering for electromechanical products.
- Hands-on experience with characterization methods such as SEM/EDS, FTIR, DSC/TGA, XRF, and optical microscopy.
- Proven expertise in root cause analysis and driving corrective actions across organizational boundaries.
- Strong experience in supplier/ODM engagement and cross-functional leadership.
- Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate-level degree in a relevant engineering field.
- Expertise in failure mechanisms for metals, polymers, and adhesives (e.g., corrosion, fatigue, environmental aging).
- Experience with IPC acceptability standards, specifically IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-600.
- Knowledge of connector, cable, and interconnect reliability.
- Experience developing industry standards, templates, or method validation packages.
